Gelanor Thorell, 1869
EOL Text
As stated by Blackwell (1863) over a century and a half ago, Gelanor Thorell, 1869 are among the most “handsome and remarkable spiders.” The most striking characteristic of Gelanor species is the unusual elongation of the femur, patella and tibia in the palp of adult males, which is twice the length of the body. This feature, combined with the characteristic two white spots bordered with red on the anterior part of the abdomen (present in both sexes of most of the species of the genus) allows to easy diagnose Gelanor from other genera in Mimetidae (currently there are twelve valid genera in the family).
